A pan screw is actually a machine screw with sides that happen to be rounded and flat tops. They're similar to overhead device screws, but the main difference is the fact with oval screws, the highest is rounded too. Oval screws even have tapered bases, as opposed to the pan screws, which are not tapered in the least. Pancake: Pancake head screws
